Wellies and Macs and Apple Crumble

It was a miserable morning .... grey, wet and dismal. We donned our wellies and macs for the first time this season and gamely set off for the garden. We were determined to go.

We stayed in the polytunnel where the rain always sounds so much worse than it is, and between us we cleared one whole side and a bit more.

We discarded old bunting, pulled up sunflowers, ipomea, old cucumbers and weeds galore.

Outside the new grass is looking good.

And the old grass has greened up nicely thank goodness. Why it has gone so patchy I do not know.

The witch was down after the gales so she was the first of the largest scarecrows to come into the warm. She still looks a bit sinister.

The flying fairies are indoors, along with all the fairy and gnome bits and pieces, drying off.

Lots of things flattened ... sunflowers, tithonia, Michaelmus daisy.

Several paths to the polytunnel are impassable, even more so with the rain as well.

The poor bunting is bedraggled and limp. Next time it will come inside to dry off. One bit had blown down altogether.

We came home laden with apples ..... eaters, cookers and quince. In fact we are having apple crumble for dinner tonight.

Yum yum.

The afternoon was glorious and we spent it in our own garden.
