Fickle April

Oh we are getting the full range of weather. I`ve always considered April to be a fickle month. One minute you are putting on suntan lotion and the next, the layers are going back on.

And there may be a frost tonight.

The blossom at the garden is lovely .... apple (just) pear, cherry.

I changed my plan. I had intended to weed and neaten another flowerbed but I got a bit involved with paths and veg beds.
Steve put out the first scarecrow. She will just about last another year before she needs another outfit and possibly a face-lift.

The spurge is still flowering. And the camassia is just coming out.

I have uncovered the dahlia tubers only to find half of them eaten by mice who had made 3 nests next to their ready-meal service bar.

This is all that was left.

Anne has tidied up the small stable and the goblin jail is now in situ. The goblins fared well through the winter apart from one broken leg, but they are ready to go back in the cage soon.

They enjoyed their holiday in the polytunnel.

The broad beans are also doing well in the polytunnel. We might be eating some soon which is just as well because our new outdoor rows have been eaten by mice and the autumn planted row did not survive the prolonged hard frosts..

At home the tulips are in their full glory with an undercarpet of wallflowers. I hope they haven`t been ruined by the hailstones this evening.

The Fate of the Felted Egg

Easter Saturday was fine and sunny for the egg hunt in our own garden.

Preparing the hunt the night before.
Some of the newest bunting.
Very naughty cupcakes.

On Easter Sunday it was a cold, unwelcoming type of day until after lunch.

We went to the garden to harvest leeks, broccolli, mint and rhubarb.

The flying fairies with newly furbished wings, were placed round the garden.

New fairy bunting was added to the tiny gardens.

The craft trolley has now been set up and Easter visitors have been buying. I have made stacks of stuff this winter and will be gradually bringing it down .... some old favourites and some brand-new ideas. Something for everyone.

As it was, a lady staying at the Valley View yurt, had bought some mittens and seemed very pleased with them.

We didn`t stay long.

Back at home, the roast lamb was cooking and the sun gradually showed itself.

As we waited for our guests, we amused ourselves watching a bluetit attacking one of my felted eggs for nesting material. I didn`t mind losing the egg for the joy of watching this little bird.

The lane is full of wild flowers .....

...... but watch out for the ruts and potholes, sometimes filled with water.

The rhubarb crumble was delicious.

HAPPY EASTER
