Damselflies and Kohlrabi

A busy week at Freshwinds Garden
and busy, busy today.
The car park was so crowded we couldn`t park there....lots of visitors enjoying the wonderful weather, in tents, yurts and the shepherd`s hut.
It was baking hot. I had to wear a hat and I nearly passed out in the polytunnel.
The watering still has to be done.

The next few weeks are all about preparing for the big garden opening.
I have had some very nice compliments about the garden from visitors already.
It makes me feel very happy.

My first job was to prepare some very dry ground for leeks.

Steve got the last two flowerbeds netted.

The pumpkins have gone over the edge and the first ones are forming.

Here is the bottom fence cleared of stinging nettles. Interestingly the horses ate all the pulled nettles which I find quite astonishing.

It will soon be time to pick the blackcurrants. It is a heavy crop.

Three general views.

The kohlrabi we had for dinner this evening.
Such an incredible colour.

The cob shed floor has cracked as expected.
Actually we quite like it and we`re thinking of mixing a different colour to fill them.
It looks like crazy paving.

My colour sense went awry on the left but not bad on the right.
All planted at random.

Meanwhile by the pond things are happening.....
.....lilies are blooming, frogs are jumping and damsel flies are mating.

On closer inspection it is quite extraordinary how these damselflies come together.
The lower abdomen of one attached by hooks to the thorax of the other.
They fly around like this in tandem.

Here are some closer cropped photos.

 Fascinating.

    1. The damp weather is fine for frogs but damselflies love the sunny days.
