Wild Areas and First Sowings

It was cold at Freshwinds Garden so it was back to all the warm layers.
Tim and Anne were busy erecting the Owl yurt and that was very exciting to see.
We checked on the willow bed and that seemed fine, with green poking through the rabbit guards.
According to the moon, it was a good day to plant any roots so Steve took the opportunity to get parsnip and carrot seed in the raised bed and some onion sets in one of the big beds.
I think onions are not strictly roots!!

Paula joined us and got stuck into some weeding.

It looked good when it was done.

Toby and Amanda gave us some spare shrubs at the weekend. I got this forsythia in and a lilac.

I worked on the wild flower area. It was a bit of a disaster last year
so this year there will be an improvement. It is edged by hazel loops.
I found these in the hedgerows after they had been cut.

The forgetmenots were just opening.

Back at home the stellata magnolia is in full flower.

The fairy garden has been spruced up.

The rosemary is in full flower.

Everything is OK in my greenhouse.

And finally the utter joy of bonfires. Yesterday this area was full of garden rubbish to burn.
Oh the satisfaction of going to look this morning and finding the whole lot gone.
This fire basket is on its last legs, literally. I wish someone could invent one that does not perish so quickly.

Think we will be having more bonfires soon, as we refuse to pay £25 a year for a green bin. We feel it should be part of the services.
The only downside to bonfires is that all your clothes need washing as well as hair, body etc.
But I love having bonfires. Little bit of a pyromaniac in me somewhere.
